Chick-fil-A Story

Chick-fil-A’s story began in 1946, when founder S. Truett Cathy opened a small diner called the Dwarf Grill in Hapeville, Georgia. Truett built his business on a simple principle — care for people first, and the rest will follow. His commitment to hospitality, community, and excellence eventually led him to invent the Original Chick-fil-A Chicken Sandwich in 1964, a recipe that remains unchanged today.

As the brand grew, Truett kept the focus on people. He believed that a great business starts with great leadership, which is why Chick-fil-A developed one of the most selective and hands-on Operator programs in the industry. Rather than franchising in a traditional way, Chick-fil-A chooses Operators through a rigorous selection process designed to identify leaders of character — individuals who will be present in their restaurants, invest in their teams, and serve their communities well.
